Build accurate Harvard (Cite Them Right) references for books, journal articles, websites and newspapers. Designed for UK university standards used across Russell Group institutions.
"Harvard" is not a single referencing style — it is a family of author–date styles with small variations between universities. In the UK the most widely adopted variant is the Cite Them Right Harvard style, published by Bloomsbury and used at institutions including the University of Leeds, University of Manchester, University of Birmingham, University of Sheffield and most other Russell Group members. This generator follows that standard so your citations match what UK markers expect.
Order your reference list alphabetically by author surname. Titles of books, journals and newspapers are italicised; article and chapter titles are placed in single quotation marks. If no date is available, use "n.d." Always double-check your institution's own guide as a small number of UK universities apply their own house Harvard adjustments (for example, punctuation between year and title).
